You are Built for More
I’ve been a huge fan of Steve Harvey’s books Act Like a Success and Jump. His words have helped me to become a better businesswoman and courageously leap into early retirement to pursue my destiny full-time.
I discovered Steve’s “21-Day Jump Challenge” on his website the weekend after I retired. Not sure why I hadn’t noticed it before, but nevertheless, I thought it might provide tips which could help me even after jumping. It did, and I suggest that you check it out and take the challenge!
One day, an event announcement showed up in my email in-box. The Act Like a Success seminar was coming to Los Angeles! Steve was one of the speakers! Say no more. I am there! There was no way I was going to miss that opportunity.
The Act Like a Success seminar was this past weekend. I’ve attended various literary, publishing, and women’s seminars, but this one was like no other. The energy in a room filled with success-minded people was palpable. We are all on a journey, trying to make something of ourselves and give back to the world, but it felt like home—a place where everyone supported your dream. I swear to you, there are things that I learned from this seminar that I have never been taught before. I am a work in progress, but my mindset has changed and I see what it takes to be successful in a whole new light.
In usual Steve Harvey fashion, he delivered sidesplitting humor intertwined with motivational tips and inspiration. I kid you not, it was the most powerful, heartfelt speech I have ever heard! We went on a journey with Steve—from his days as a young boy when he was told by a school teacher that he would never be on TV to three years of homelessness, divorced twice and to eventually turning things around to become a wealthy global success. By the end, we were in tears, impressed by how far Steve has come and touched by the tribute that he made to his late mother.
How about you? Are you ready to push away from the dock and set sail towards your dreams? Steve shared two quotes: “A ship in port is safe, but that's not what ships are built for," and “Success isn’t how far you got but the distance you traveled from where you started." I think back just a mere 10 years, 3 months ago, and I had absolutely no idea that I would be where I’m at today and doing what I’m doing. It continues to be an “I can’t believe these amazing things are happening to me” journey.
It’s because of my beloved horse, Freedom, that I faithfully took that first step and you should, too. Trust me, it is scary, but you cannot fear the unknown. If you do, you could be missing out on blessings and an incredible life!
